The site is a coastal pine forest and our desire to minimize the removal of trees suggested touching the ground only at two existing clearings, connected by an enclosed bridge. The 80 foot long bridge has no foundations to disturb roots and serves as both library and gallery. A continuous skylight extends the entire length of the house.
