The longitudinal axis is set parallel to a cul de sac street and perpendicular to both the grade and the coastline.  This approach allows the house to both merge with and elevate above its setting, while the various program elements are arranged along the sides of the axis according to their program, height, and orientation requirements.  Rooms are cooled naturally with manually operated hatches beneath ventilation chimneys.
